본 논문은 사도행전과 관련하여 리처드 보컴(Richard Bauckham)의 저작 《예수와 목격자들》(Jesus and the Eyewitnesses)을 다룬다. 사도행전에서 목격자 증언이 차지하는 중요한 위치를 규명하고 이를 상세히 논한다. 또한 예수 이야기와 관련하여 사도행전 내 목격자들의 역할을 고찰하며, 이것이 오늘날 우리의 복음서 안에 관련 이야기들이 보존되는 데 중대한 의의를 지닌다고 (보컴의 견해와 궤를 같이하여) 주장한다. 이어 '우리(we) 단락'을 비롯해 목격자 전승의 사용을 암시하는 사도행전 속 몇 가지 구체적인 예시들을 찾아내고, 이 목격자 자료를 어디까지 신뢰할 수 있는지 평가한다.
This article engages with Richard Bauckham’s work in Jesus and the Eyewitnesses in relation to the book of Acts. It identifies and expounds the important place of eyewitness testimony in Acts. It also considers the role of eyewitnesses within Acts in relation to the stories of Jesus, arguing (with Bauckham) that this is significant for the preservation of these stories in our Gospels. It then identifies some example stories within Acts which imply use of eyewitness tradition, including the ‘we’ sections, and assesses how far eyewitness material can be trusted.
