English summary
James Jangwook Lee uses Enoch Wan’s diaspora missiology to interpret the gate ceremony in Ruth 4. The article asks how an outsider can enter the covenant community while retaining an ethnic identity. Its reading concentrates on the responsibilities assumed through the go’el institution, the continued identification of Ruth as a Moabite woman, and the community’s blessing. Lee relates these features to ministry among marriage-migrant women in Korea. Wan’s distinction between mission to, through, and by or beyond the diaspora helps assess their opportunities to participate. The article challenges practices that treat migrant women primarily as recipients of care and proposes recognition of their agency, cultural identities, and transnational relationships in the church’s mission.
