A recent flurry of discussion among evangelical theologians and interpreters of Scripture has explored the question of whether, and in what manner, we ought to go "beyond the Bible" in doing systematic theology. In this article, I examine several of Paul's forays into the conversations that would have counted as theologia in the Greco-Roman world of early Christianity, with the aim of shedding some Pauline light on the question of how we might make a faithful movement from Scripture to theology.
