마가복음 13장 32-37절에 나타난 예수님의 "깨어 있으라"는 말씀에 대한 독해를 제시한다. 이 독해는 마가복음 14장의 후속 서사에서 예수님의 말씀이 문자적 실현과 은유적 실현을 모두 갖는다고 주장하며, 그리스도인 제자도에 지속적인 함의를 지닌다. 이 독해는 마가복음 13장과 14장에 대한 다른 연구들과 함께 다뤄진다. 또한 신학적 해석의 본질을 명확히 하고자 아델 야브로 콜린스의 역사화적 독해와도 비교된다.
I offer a reading of Jesus’s words to “stay awake” in Mark 13:32–37 that argues for both a literal and a metaphorical realization of Jesus’s words in the subsequent narrative of Mark 14, in a way that has enduring implications for Christian discipleship. This reading is set alongside other studies of Mark 13 and 14, and it is also compared with the historicizing reading of Adele Yarbro Collins so as to clarify the nature of theological interpretation.
