최근 몇 년간, 기독교 성경의 신학적 해석은 종종 역사 및/또는 역사 비평에 대한 전반적인 반감으로 특징지어진다. 본 논문은 다양한 형태의 "역사 비평"에 대한 유형론을 바탕으로 다음과 같이 주장한다. (1) "실제로 무슨 일이 일어났는지"를 재구성하는 것으로 이해되는 역사 비평, 그리고/또는 "사실"과 "믿음"의 필연적인 분리를 가정하는 역사 비평은 신학적 해석에 적대적이다. (2) 철학사 분야의 현대 연구에 비추어 볼 때, 이러한 형태의 역사 비평은 점점 더 지지하기 어렵다. (3) 현대 신학적 해석은 성경 자료가 생성된 역사적 상황, 즉 그들이 당연하게 여기는 사회 문화적 관습과 관련된 역사 비평의 표현에 의존한다.
In recent years, theological interpretation of Christian Scripture has often been distinguished by its wholesale antipathy toward history and/or to historical criticism. Working with a typology of different forms of "historical criticism," this essay urges (1) that historical criticism understood as reconstruction of "what really happened" and/or historical criticism that assumes the necessary segregation of "facts" from "faith" is inimical to theological interpretation; (2) that this form of historical criticism is increasingly difficult to support in light of contemporary work in the philosophy of history; and (3) that contemporary theological interpretation is dependent on expressions of historical criticism concerned with the historical situation within which the biblical materials were generated, including the sociocultural conventions they take for granted.
