첫째, 구약성경에서 히브리어 어근 yod–shin–ayin, 즉 "구원하다"/"구원"의 특징적인 용례들을 살펴본다. 둘째, 이사야 49:1–7 및 52:13–53:12에 나타난 여호와의 종을 구원과의 관계에서 탐구적으로 읽어낸다. 내가 제기하는 한 가지 전반적인 주장은, 이 본문들이 정경적 맥락에서 보존되고 특권화될 때 "이 본문들은 무엇을 의미할 수 있는가?"라는 질문이 "이 본문들은 원래 무엇을 의미했는가?"라는 질문보다 덜 중요하지 않다는 것이다.
First, I consider characteristic uses of the Hebrew root yod–shin–ayin, “save”/“salvation,” in the OT. Secondly, I offer a heuristic reading of the servant of YHWH in Isa 49:1–7 and 52:13–53:12 in relation to salvation. One overall claim I make is that the question “What can these texts mean?” when they are preserved and privileged in a canonical context, is not less significant than the question “What did these texts originally mean?”
