생태 위기가 점점 더 영적 위기로 인식되는 시대에, 정교회 전통은 특히 ‘포스트-기독교’ 영적 탐구자들에게 강력한 증언이 될 수 있는 자원을 지니고 있다. 이러한 증언은 특히 수도 공동체의 모범에 의존하며, 그들의 삶의 방식이 성육신 신학과 창조 안에서의 하나님의 로고이(logoi)에 뿌리를 두고 있다는 데서 힘을 얻는다. 이들의 관상적 세계관은 범신론 없이도 지구의 ‘신성함’을 받아들이게 한다. 필로칼리아와 예수 기도, 그리고 특히 러시아 망명 전통의 대표적인 정교회 지도자들의 가르침을 통해 많은 이들이 이 비전을 접해 왔다. 현대의 가장 사랑받는 성인들 가운데 일부는 성인과 자연 환경 간의 변혁된 관계를 증언한다. 최근에는 인간 세계와 자연 세계 모두에 대한 사랑과 돌봄의 균형을 특징으로 하는 구체적인 환경 실천 사례들도 다수 나타나고 있다.
Abstract At a time when the ecological crisis is increasingly seen as a spiritual crisis, the Orthodox Christian tradition has resources for a powerful witness, especially to ‘post-Christian’ spiritual seekers. This witness depends on the example of monastic communities especially; on the grounding of their way of life in a theology of the Incarnation and the logoi of God in creation. Their contemplative vision of the world enables us to accept a “sacredness” of the earth without pantheism. Many have discovered that vision through the Philokalia and the Jesus Prayer, and the teaching of some prominent spokesmen for Orthodoxy especially of the Russian emigre tradition. Some of the best-loved modern saints also witness to a transformed relationship between holy people and their natural environment. More recently, we have many examples of specifically environmental practice, notable for its balance of love and care for the human and natural worlds.
