본 연구는 선교적 설교(Missional Preaching)의 개념과 핵심 특징을 탐구하고, 전통적 설교와의 차이를 논하며, 교회 현장에서의 실천 과제를 제시한다. 선교적 설교는 20세기 후반 하나님의 선교(Missio Dei) 개념과 선교적 해석학의 발전, 그리고 포스트-크리스덴덤 시대로의 전환이라는 배경 속에서 부상한 설교의 새로운 패러다임이다.
선교적 설교의 핵심 요소는 다음과 같다. 신학적으로 삼위일체 하나님의 선교적 본성(Missio Dei)에 근거하며, 성경적으로 선교적 해석학을 적용한다. 내용적으로는 하나님 나라의 선포와 그리스도 중심성을 강조하고, 목표는 세상 속 증언 공동체이자 대조 공동체(Contrast Community) 형성에 둔다. 방법론적으로는 복음 기준의 문화적 맥락화를 추구하며, 선포와 초대를 결합한 참여적 소통을 지향한다.
선교적 설교가 현재 필수적인 이유는 신학적·시대적 측면에서 찾을 수 있다. 신학적으로는 설교의 주체와 주도권을 하나님께 돌리고, 성경 문해력과 그리스도 중심적 설교의 포괄성을 높이며, 교회의 정체성과 사명을 통합적으로 재정렬한다. 시대적으로는 포스트-크리스덴덤 시대의 선교적 정황, 탈진리와 불신의 시대적 도전에 응답하며, 교회의 생명력과 복음의 총체성을 회복한다.
전통적 설교와의 관계에서, 선교적 설교는 강조점의 차이를 보이지만 상호 배타적이지 않다. 본문 중심에서 정경적-내러티브로, 내부지향적 경건 공동체에서 세상 속 대조 공동체로, 지식 전달에서 선포와 초대를 통한 주체성 부여로, 개인 구원에서 전인적 변혁과 공적 증언으로 확장된다. 다만 성경 권위의 우선성, 은혜의 우선성, 영적 권위와 참여적 실천의 균형을 유지해야 한다.
실천 과제로는 설교자의 선교적 정체성 확립, 주해-신학-설교화 과정에서 선교적 역동성 반영(정경적 감각, 복음의 보편적 감각, 정황적 감각 함양), 그리고 진정성 있는 대화적 전달 방식이 요구된다. 선교적 설교는 성경과 청중 사이를 잇는 설교의 존재론적 재발견이자 역동성의 재활성화로서, 21세기 교회의 설교 방향을 제시하는 중요한 목회적 운동이다.

This study explores the concept and core characteristics of missional preaching, discusses its differences from traditional preaching, and presents practical tasks for church implementation. Missional preaching emerged as a new paradigm in the late 20th century against the backdrop of the Missio Dei concept, the development of missional hermeneutics, and the transition to a post-Christendom era.
The core elements of missional preaching are as follows. Theologically, it is grounded in the missional nature of the Triune God (Missio Dei) and biblically applies missional hermeneutics. In content, it emphasizes the proclamation of God's kingdom and Christ-centeredness, with the goal of forming a witnessing and contrast community in the world. Methodologically, it pursues gospel-based cultural contextualization and advocates participatory communication combining proclamation and invitation.
The current necessity of missional preaching can be found in theological and contemporary aspects. Theologically, it returns the agency and initiative of preaching to God, enhances biblical literacy and the comprehensiveness of Christ-centered preaching, and integratively realigns the church's identity and mission. Contemporarily, it responds to the missional context of the post-Christendom era and challenges of the post-truth age while recovering the church's vitality and gospel's totality.
In relation to traditional preaching, missional preaching shows differences in emphasis but is not mutually exclusive. It expands from text-centeredness to canonical-narrative, from inward-oriented piety community to contrast community in the world, from knowledge transmission to agency through proclamation and invitation, and from individual salvation to holistic transformation and public witness. However, it must maintain the priority of biblical authority, the primacy of grace, and balance between spiritual authority and participatory practice.
Practical tasks include establishing the preacher's missional identity, reflecting missional dynamism in the exegetical-theological-homiletical process (cultivating canonical, universal gospel, and contextual sensibilities), and employing authentic dialogical delivery. Missional preaching is an ontological rediscovery and revitalization of preaching that connects Scripture and audience, representing an important pastoral movement presenting the direction of 21st-century church preaching.
