Missional hermeneutics presupposes the Missio Dei as a paradigm for understanding the entire biblical narrative. Using Philemon as a case study, the author presents five core insights.
First, it cultivates a narrative sensibility connecting Scripture with our lives by situating texts within God's missional story. Second, it facilitates balanced dialogue with various aspects of Christian worldview (soteriology, new creation, Trinity, ecclesiology, ethics). Third, it helps discern deep idols beneath surface idols and confront cultural idolatry through God's love. Fourth, it forms the collective identity and way of life of the congregation, where the community's very existence becomes the message through repeated practice and habitus formation. Fifth, it stimulates cultural sensitivity and theological imagination to express the gospel in contemporary language.
